Tree In The Woods?
As a former Palm user/fan and a current Blackberry Storm 2 user I seem to have become a supporter of potential lost causes (could I possibly be a Jet fan at heart?). I see the viral acceptance and adoption of the Android platform, the popularity of the Apple iPad and how it has spawned a frenzy of similar tablet platforms. And now, rumor has it that RIM will be releasing it’s answer to the tablet… enter the Playbook. Will it be the shot in the arm that RIM is seeking or be more like the proverbial fallen tree in the woods?
The funny thing is, this information has been circulating from many sources but check the Research In Motion (RIM) site and you’ll find that there is no information to be found regarding the Playbook. Despite this, on September 21, 2010, WSJ.com reported that RIM “could unveil its new tablet computer—as well as the operating system that will power it—as early as next week at a developers’ conference in San Francisco”. One note of hope is that rumor has it that RIM will be ditching the BlackBerry 6 OS in favor of an entirely new platform produced by the recently acquired QNX. Perhaps QNX will prove innovative enough to infuse some much needed life into RIM’s once dominant product line. Still, there are several elephants in the room including the effectiveness of the user interface, the stability of the new platform, available applications and whether the platform will provide enough memory for them.
The tablet will retail at $499 for the basic model.
So, what are you thoughts? Does the Playbook sound promising? Are you already sold and committed to other tablet platforms like the iPad or the Galaxy Tab? Is the market already too crowded? Share your thoughts and opinions. If we get enough feedback, we may be inclined to explore the possibility of yet another giveaway!
And if you know us, we always do!
