Speed Up Gmail Mobile Webapp

If you’ve ever used the Andoird/iPhone version of Gmail, you’ll know that it’s a webapp that rivals any mail client but if there’s one shortcoming, it’s that it can suffer from slowdowns from time to time. Well, Thomas from Just Another iPhone Blog figured out to the slowdown when he said

Instead of refreshing in about 1-3 seconds, the web app took upwards of 10 seconds to show me if there was anything new in the inbox. I was racking my brain over what had changed…and then I saw the 40-message threaded conversation I’d been having with someone over the holidays. We had been exchanging long e-mails about drafts, and each reply contained all of the words from the previous replies, and so it was that a little conversation morphed into some horrific Godzilla e-mail that toppled over the Tokyo of my Gmail inbox

So there you have it folks, a simple solution to a rather common problem. If you’re facing some lagging the next time you load up the Gmail webapp, check to see if there are any behemoth of an email slowing it down.
