Say What? A Word About Our Giveaways

By: Jenna Gonzalez (Editor In Chief)

Here at MRT, we’ve been giving away lots of prizes since our site started in the fall of last year. From our humble beginnings, we think it’s important for people to know that we consider ourselves lucky for all the support that we’ve enjoyed over the last nine months. We continue to be grateful for everything we accomplish today, as we did when we had but a dozen subscribers at launch. For every little accomplishment we’ve had, we’re proud to state that we’ve already been (and continuosly) imitated and sourced for ideas by our much larger peers in the industry. As flattering and grating as that may be, we’re alright with it. All we can do is stick to who we are and believe in the foundations we’ve built. Friendship, Solidarity, Trust, and Kick-ass love for all things tech.

Simply put: We’re not the biggest, and we don’t care to be. We write when we want to, because we love to. We chase no deadlines, we answer to each other, and we make no money out of it. Finally, we’re here because we care about tech. Not because we need to make a living out of it. Everyone else is a business first and foremost…and businesses see eveything in dollar bills. That’s cool too. But we’re not a business, and we will never base our work on the amount of money we could make.

Unlike many sites out there, our team was born out of friendship and love. We remain a group of close friends with loving families, real full-time jobs like you, and positive reinforcements all around us. Is it a successful model? Who knows. All we know is that we like to celebrate what we have by giving away as many great prizes as we possibly could…to show that we care, and that we appreciate all the good blessings we continue to enjoy.

Tonight (May 25th) and in the coming weeks and months, we will be giving away yet another great pair of prizes from our Pepcom giveaway. We’d like to thank our friends at Pepcom and all the represented brands (who will be watching and validating) for believing in us.

Just a few things. Remember to sign up for our weekly newsletter if you haven’t already done so. Its simple. All it takes is your email address, then you go into your email and confirm. DONE! That basically qualifies you for every single one of our giveaway contests (we have a lot!) We DO NOT send out spam. We DO NOT send you 20 emails a week. We DON’T try to get you to buy anything (eew) and we DON’T give or sell your information to anyone. You simply get a harmless email each time one of us has an article or post published. And since every review is practically a giveaway, wouldn’t you like to know? We also sometimes give prizes to people who retweet us on Twitter and mention us on Facebook. That’s it. No lengthy fineprint. No crazy rules that ask for your soul. Our rules are very simple, and we like to keep it that way. We are, after all, real tech for real people. They can steal our ideas, but they can’t steal that slogan!

Second. Throughout our many contests, it’s been brought to our attention that some people may have cheated by plagiarizing other entries. What’s up with that? Anyone will be disqualified from any contest if we so find that you cheat in any way. We take our site seriously and we have always been fair in our giveaways. We have no tolerance for cheaters who do not follow our simple rules.

Finally, in all our previous contests, we never give out any identifying information about the winners. It has and always will be our policy out of respect for the privacy of our winners. We have never had any complaints and we’ve only ever had grateful winners and good sports who participated. However, it’s been made known to us lately that some people who lost recently are crying foul. People, we’re just a small tech site trying to give out stuff. We have ZERO advertising (in case you didnt notice) and we ge ZERO ad revenue. We don’t bash people who do. After all, some of us gotta pay our bills right? But we do take pride in the fact that we can stay REAL with you. And anytime money is involved, it’s as real as a 34 DD on Heidi Montag’s chest. You know that.

While we are open to change in the future (to pay for site upkeep), it has always been our policy to this date, to decline any advertising revenue. In addition, we do NOT accept any financial compensation from any of our friends in the industry. By the pure grace of our respectable name and the trust of our friends in the industry, all we have are prizes to give away to lucky people in exchange for some worthy mention of their products in our site. If you cannot accept loss, and if you cannot understand the concept of “odds”, then please refrain from entering our contests.

Very eloquently spoken, and very much appreciated. Ive been a news letter subscriber for a long time now and enjoy every email I receive. I do not always comment on every post, I stick to the ones that interest me. I love a good giveaway just like every one else. I just recently learned that it is not a retweet to win as in not every tweet is an entry. And I really like that. Thanks for all you do and please keep the reviews coming.

Very thoughtful, well-written post. I was introduced to your site because of your giveaways, I've stayed because of the content. Keep doing what you're doing, and doing it well :)

Thank you so very much for all the positive comments. It's not just me. We all put so much love into our little site that it really hurts sometimes when people go after us, both in the industry and viewers. But what's more important is the emotion that I feel when good people like you say such heartwarming things about us & our humble project. Thank you again. And yes, I'm a twitterer, if that's even a word. And I do love sharing not just what we do here but all my adventures as well. It's good to know people actually care to look at my tweets. lol. You guys are the best!

I don't mind if you don't announce the winners name of your contests however for example that handy hd cam. DID THAT END? no response from my realty tech or on the post if it ended.

Well said! I get so tired of reading the crying and moaning of people that didn't win. I've been lucky to win my share, but that is because of the definition on luck….Luck is when opportunity meets preperation. For every time I have won, I've lost hundreds! But to me its fun. The waiting to see if your the lucky one. If your not having fun, go do somthing else! Thank you for the opportunity to have fun. One suggestion I would ask is even though you don't annouce winners names info, how about at least letting up know what contests are still active every once in a while, and when one has ended. Thanks.

It is nice when a site like this can stick to its core values and not worry about what sponsors and executive types want. There are plenty of places people can go to get that kind of commercialism. Nice work Jenna!

thanks for your reviews ,giveaways and articles ! and remember – you can't make them All happy ;)

Truthfully, I started reading your blog for the giveaways, but I really like your reviews. They're honest & helpful. You easily get your point across. I appreciate the fact that you don't announce the winners names, everyone doesn't need to know who won if the winner wants it that way. I only have one request, and that would be an end date for each of your contests, and when a winner will be chosen. I don't need to know who won, just when to stop tweeting about the contest. Keep up the good work, I am sharing this on twitter. Maybe that will cut down on the whining?

I will admit I only learned of your site merely by promising to vote for someone. Your giveaway caught my eye, for sure it is not my nature to state a lie. I keep reading the rules. Thinking I am missing something…lol I am so glad I check back to read some of your other postings. I can appreciate your passion to share your knowledge with others. I believe there are rewards that comes in ways one might have never imagined. After reading your article, I feel as if I can come and ask for advise & help with tech issues. I know I can learn something. I am out to prove, an old dog can learn new tricks…lol
I am looking forward to getting your emails. Thank you
