So Pepcom put on their EcoFocus 2010 event in New York City and almost 200 press and analysts came for a day of food, drinks and to experience demos from eco-friendly companies looking to get their name & products out there. Known for putting on mostly Mobile and Digital Technology-focused events, Pepcom moved into the new, clean tech space and I think most vendors and attendees would agree it was a huge success.

The event welcomed some of the most influential journalists and analysts from various media outlets. Some of the press who attended recent Pepcom events include representatives of ABC, Bloomberg News, CBS, CNN, CNET, Consumer Reports, eWeek, Forbes, Fortune, Gartner, IDC, InfoWorld, Maxim, NBC, New York Times, Newsweek, PC Magazine, PC World, Popular Science, Reuters, Time, U.S. News, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and of course, MRT.

While some may not be totally sold on global warming and much of the green talk that surrounds us today, this event clearly was evidence that green is more than just a fad. It is an area of true innovation and growth. The vendors at the night’s event include big names, like , and Toshiba showing off their power-saving notebooks, netbooks and desktop PCs. had an impressive-looking all-in-one desktop with a wide screen that had power-saving features, while showed off a swanky new netbook with a swiveling screen that could also function as a touchscreen. On the software side, Iolo Technologies talked about its tools for tuning up Windows PCs so they don’t require as much power to run.

The faces behind these businesses, both big and small, have a common goal to make a positive impact on our environment. They are challenging convention, and working to change our “oh so traditional behaviors” to become a smarter, savvier, more eco-conscious society. Clean technology isn’t only an expanding industry. But what this event clearly demonstrated is that it is an area of true belief, one that people have a renewed passion for. Most importantly, it is one that is and will be making a significant, positive impact for years to come.

While there were a ton of products offered, I’d like to highlight several of the one’s that jumped out at me the most. Let’s take a look!

HP Pavilion All-in-One MS220z

hp_1

From its slim profile to its simple setup, our Pavilion All-in-One MS220z is ready to streamline your desktop and life. Its integrated design puts everything in the display there’s no need for a PC tower while giving you full features, including wireless networking. The slim profile will fit neatly on your desk, in the kid’s room, or in the kitchen. Reduce your impact on the environment with this ENERGY STAR qualified, EPEAT Silver registered system. In addition, the packaging is 100% recyclable and contains a minimum of 60% recycled material. Best of all, with a starting price of $599.00 this little gem is economical as well as Eco-friendly.

Sprint to Launch Samsung Restore, Eco-Friendly Phone

sprint-samsung-restore

Having already come out with some eco-friendly devices in the past, Sprint has always been on the forefront of green technology. The is yet another product to be introduced. It has as Eco calculator so you can gauge your mpg versus if you have walked the same mileage or have used mass transit. The outer packaging is made from 100 percent recycled materials, featuring a cardboard box made from 70 percent post consumer materials and images and text printed with soy-based ink. An energy-efficient charger also saves power by using less than 30mW in standby mode… Sprint stated the will be available this summer for $50 with a two-year contract. We’ll be sure to let you know everything about it once we review the product.

Lenovo L412 & L512

lenovo_laptops

This new offering from boasts savings up to an estimated 40% per year on operating costs to compared to previous ThinkPad laptops. L412, L512 Estimated 40% less energy consumption and 50% less CO2 emissions Compared against previous laptops. These Eco-beauties have up to 30% post-consumer content used in L Series laptops Post-consumer content includes office water jugs and used IT equipment which are supposedly used in parts like the LCD cover, palm rests and top/bottom case.  According to the company, each L Series laptop saves the equivalent of 10 plastic water bottles and uses less power with LED-backlit displays and Power Manager at your finger tips. has also used close to 100% recyclable packaging all packaging is recyclable except the bags enclosing the system and the included manuals/documentation and 20% less of it. Sounds like fancy wording to us, but we’ll see once we get them in.

iolo technologies System Mechanic

boxshot

This next product comes in as a surprise, mainly because we didn’t really find too many software programs worth featuring. However, with the new rush on green tech, it does have some higher costs to the consumer of said products. With that in mind, Iolo technologies has come up with a great idea… “If you cannot get that great new green machine that you want, make yours work like one.” iolo tech has a new program called software, which is designed to resolve PC problems, improve overall performance, and keep aging computers operating in optimal condition longer. It is now supposedly being called “the crème de la crème” of PC tune-up software that “bested every other product in its class and rose to the top via hardcore testing.” This “serious tune-up tool for your PC” which “can give users peace of mind along with powerful tools” was praised by GCN in the award write-up for the “noticeable and measurable change” in PC performance, “helping your older hardware perform as well as technically possible” and “saving you a lot of money by avoiding costly new computer buys.” For that alone, could be one of the heroes of this current market. So for around $40 ($60 for the PRO) bucks you can save some green and be Eco-Green at the same time. We’re looking at you iolo!

Sony Vaio W2 Series

PepcomSony

W2_Green_with_case W2_S15_G_FrontAndBack

As you know, MRT was one of the first to see the unveiling of Sony’s new line up back in 2009. The W Series has now gone greener and has now been re-sired the W2. Not only is it EPEAT Gold Certified and Energy Star 5.0 compliant, the W2 is made from 23% recycled CDs and DVDs! On top of that, the W2’s carrying case is made from 100% recycled P.E.T bottles (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) i.e., “soda and water bottles.” Once again, sounds like a pretty neat take on green. Rather than putting more waste into landfills, took waste out and turned it into a cool little machine. Under the hood is a gig of RAM, 250GB hard drive, Atom N450 processor, 8 hours of actual use time. With 1366 x 768 resolution LED lighted W screen, you get the same screen real estate on a 10” screen that you do on many 13” screens. That extra resolution (compared to standard 1024 x 600 netbook screen resolution) really comes in handy when you’re browsing the web and working on documents, and makes the W2 feel like it’s bigger than it is. Oh did I mention it runs Windows 7 operating system like a dream?

Soda Stream

soda-stream

This is one machine our very own Jenna Gonzalez actually owns and loves. The average American drinks 55 gallons of soda each year. If you don’t recycle the plastic bottles, (and most don’t!!!) you’re committing that bottle to a 700-year life in a landfill. (Yeah, 700 years!) Using the , the plastic bottles are reusable. The U.S. is the world’s largest consumer of bottled water, purchasing 37 billion bottles in 2005. Our daily bottled water habit is bad for people and bad for the environment. Bottled water wastes fossil fuels and water in production and transport, and when the water is drunk the bottles become a major source of waste.

Personally, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love this machine. It’s an active green product, meaning that we are actively reducing our CO2 footprint every time we use the machine at home instead of buying the products from the store. Because uses water straight from the tap, the system makes traditional store-bought beverage bottles obsolete. That means less plastic manufactured, less plastic waste, and fewer bottled beverages being transported from manufacturers, distributors, stores and homes. Plus, one carbonator makes 60 to 110 liters of pretty good soda. That’s equivalent to 170 to 310 aluminum cans.

Here are the flavors offered! Regular: Cola, Lemon-Lime, Fountain Mist (compare to Mountain Dew®), RootBeer, Pete’s Choice (compare to Dr Pepper®), Orange, Cream Soda, Ginger Ale, Cranberry-Raspberry, Grape, Tonic.

Diet: Diet Cola, Diet Caffeine-Free Cola, Diet Lemon-Lime, Diet Root Beer, Diet Pete’s Choice (compare to Diet Dr Pepper®), Diet Orange, and Diet Fountain Mist (Compare to Diet Mountain Dew®), Diet Ginger Ale, Diet Cream Soda, Diet Cranberry-Raspberry, Diet Pink Grapefruit (compare to Fresca®), Diet Tonic.

Others: My Water flavor essences for making flavored sparkling water (Lemon-Lime, Orange, Berry),

Jenna also tells me about their Energy Drink (compare to Red Bull®). Hmmm… We will see about that…

Toshiba

tos-top

Toshiba’s entire line-up of Toshiba consumer and business laptops is rated EPEAT[R] Gold and is Energy Star qualified. Features like the power saving “Eco Utility(TM) Button” help users monitor their energy use by allowing them to run daily, weekly and monthly analysis reports that show accumulated power savings. Toshiba also ships its products with a minimum amount of plastics, dyes and packaging, while maximizing the use of recyclable materials. For example, all of Toshiba’s new laptops are boxed in packing made of nearly all recyclable materials. Toshiba’s continuous innovation in energy efficiency,” said Terrence Cronin, VP of marketing communications at Toshiba America, Inc. “We continue to focus on reducing our impact on the environment while offering products and services that help businesses and consumers reduce theirs – it’s about designing innovative eco-products that contribute to CO2 reductions, as well as offering comprehensive and convenient consumer recycling solutions.”

As we get some of these awesome green products in, we’ll definitely be sure to let you know which ones are worth the money, and which ones are just cleverly-worded duds. So, which ones are you most excited about?

Considering how many plastic soda bottles we throw out, the SodaStream would help us be a greener home. They even have a glass carafe you can buy for soda storage. What a sophisticated way to be green.

I'm crushing on the HP Pavillion All-In-One MS220z; I'm a desktop person myself and I love the slim design and Energy Star compliance. Not to mention it has an eco-smart price tag too! I love HP products, they always seem to be more reliable than other brands I've purchased. Green packing material is a pretty smart idea, too! Of all the computers in my home, the desktop is the one that sees the most action and I'd like to know that for as much as it's running, it's also doing so eco-efficiently.

    Sony Vaio W2 Series

I think the Sony Vaio W2 series is the greenest item on your featured list. Among being EPEAT Gold Certified and Engery Star 5.0 compliant, its made of recycled material. So instead of tapping out our resources, its using up wastes. As noted above, the carrying case is made from recycled water and soda bottles. I love the idea that it took old stuff that would have turned into garbage and now its a computer. Plus, how cool is it to be typing on a computer and to stop and think that its made of old cds. The specs sound amazing and I would love to win it because Windows Vista has errored and left me with the inability to print, sync some of my USB requiring devices and install anything new. True story: I tried to install a new installer and I got an error message that I can't install it because the installer is not functional -> circular problem. The only way to fix my computer is to install windows 7 but I heard a new OS costs $200. I really hope I win. Thank you for the contest and for highlighting the companies that create great products while keeping our planet in mind. :)

Sony's W Series use of recycled materials in the laptop construction and even the carrying case. Add in Gold Certified EPEAT and Energy Star 5.0 compliant electronics and LED backlighting. Heck I'd feel good just firing that beauty up.

I really like the lenovo L412, L512 lineup because of the energy efficiency and my previous experience with lenovo laptops when they were formerly thinkpads. 40 percent efficiency is alot considering how many people I know use lenovo compared to toshibas even though they are EPEAT[R] Gold. I would love both and it is good to know because I need a laptop to keep up with the recently raised electric rates in nyc. The laptops will go a long way to reducing my energy costs and I feel good in the process.

I began my journey to “green up my act” back in Jan '09 & have been passionate about making as many changes to the way my family & I live our lives as we possibly can. Doing everything from recycling & reusing whatever we can to only purchasing natural & organic home cleaning products and health and beauty products, you name it, we are doing it. We just recently purchased new energy efficient washers & dryers and have also made many modification to our home to make it a greener home. So seeing this incredible list of most innovative “green” products is just a delight to read and learn about. I have to say each and every item on the list is desirable and worthy of being applauded. At the top of my favorite is the Sony Vaio W2 Series laptop because of all of its features and the fact that is it rendered from recycled materials. That is just off the charts with the cool and hip factor on so many levels and for someone like me to prides myself on living a “green” lifestyle, this is most definitely a laptop I want to promote to all my friends and co-workers about! And since we are talking about recycled soda bottles, the Soda Stream Makers are also at the top of my favorites list, I mean talk about cool! We love to drink soda in our home and to be able to make our own is not only fun, but think of all the useless plastic we can same from landing in some landfill somewhere, gotta love it too!

Thanks so much for keep us informed about all the latest and greatest ultra cool “gadgets and devices” out there. They all rock!

  • http://twitter.com/tuinimary Patricia C

I think the SodaStream is the greenest product featured. I love the fact that the SodaStream uses your own tap water. I feel safer using my own water, I'm also leary about adverse health effects from drinking soda in plastic bottles, I prefer to drink soda from a glass.

    RT @tuinimary

The energy ratings of the Sony VAIO W2 have captured my attention:
EPEAT Gold Certified and Energy Star 5.0 compliant
Recycled content is nice, not huge factor.
Wish it came in pink, but hey… :)

This ranks greenest – energy use – higher than xtra materials use in pop bottles. I don't drink many pop/energy drinks. Try to bring my own water bottles and wash/refill those.
    Thanks!

The greenest has to be Sony Vaio W2 Series. EPEAT Gold Certified and Energy Star 5.0 compliant and made from 23% recycled CDs and DVDs, The carrying case is even made from 100% recycled P.E.T bottles. Recycling is so very important and using reusing items in addition to saving energy makes this my Green pick. That being said you have presented many wonderful green options to choose from that can make a real difference in our world. Thanks

The VAIO is the greenest item. The VAIO has two stamps that show they are green products, the EPEAT Gold Certified and Energy Star 5.0. Not only that but this item is made of recycled products: It's made from recycled CD's and DVD's. In addition to that the carring case is made from P.E.T. bottles which reduces landfills. I think most of the items are equally green, but my favorite and most needed item is the Toshiba laptop. I have a business where I could really save time if I had a laptop. Since It's a new business, I just don't have the funds for a laptop quite yet.
The reason why I picked it, you pretty much said it all: EPEAT Gold certified, helping users monitor their energy use by allowing them to run daily, weekly and monthly analysis reports that show accumulated power savings. Toshiba also ships its products with a minimum amount of plastics, dyes and packaging, while maximizing the use of recyclable materials. All of Toshiba’s new laptops are boxed in packing made of nearly all recyclable materials. Their focus on reducing the impact on the environment while offering products and services that help businesses and consumers reduce theirs, creating eco-products that contribute to CO2 reductions, as well as offering comprehensive and convenient consumer recycling solutions. I don't really know how more they could do or how they could get much greener.
I have a few friends that rave about the durability and reliability of their Toshiba Laptops, so I am basing my selection on all of the above.
    Thanks for the opportunity!

i think the new Lenovo L Series is in the “Overall” the greenest .It integrates the highest amounts of post consumer recycled content and the laptops are also shipped in nearly 100 % recycled packaging. “But i did read that those laptops meet Energy Star 5.0 for high energy efficiency and are rated EPEAT Gold in the U.S. also !”
and still has a high performance like the latest Intel Core i3 and i5 processors with Turbo Boost, eight hours of battery life and up to 57% faster bootup and shutdown.
I dont know if this is “all fancy wording” like you said but i am sure you will give us an update when you get them ?!

i think the SodaStream is the greenest product here. It eliminates the need to buy bottled water since it uses tap water, that helps by reducing the amount of bottles being manufactured as well as aluminum cans for the soda you would purchase instead.

I personally think the Toshiba laptop is the greenest with its many “green” certifications and energy saving technologies. I have been researching a Toshiba purchase of late, so I would love to win one!

  • tamcho

I think the Sony Vaio W2 Series is the greenest because it is EPEAT Gold Certified and Energy Star 5.0 compliant. I want this because I don't have a netbook and this one sounds awesome!

I would go with the Toshiba, I hear it has the best battery life which saves energy by charging less often. I would like to have this netbook and recycle my old lunker to my niece to use for her homework.

  • kammikoza

Personaly I'm a sucker when it comes to laptop because the scroll bar that I didn't care for. However, I'd go for vaio because my cousin has it and I tried using their's. Surprisely, it goes smoothly and I like it. The size is perfect for me so that I could carry around, even on the bus bec I don't drive. I can easily carry it around put in my bag and go places. Plus, it looks nice!

To me, the new Lenovo is the “greenest” because it saves an estimated 40% less energy consumption and 50% less CO2 emissions as well as up to 30% post-consumer content used, compared to previous laptops. Although all the products have great numbers, I chose this one because the percentages just blew me away. As a college student, it is essential to have a laptop, and mine happened to bite the dust a while back. I don't have the money to purchase a new one, so it would be great to win!

  • http://twitter.com/tspaid605 Theresa Spaid

I think the Sony Vaio is really green because of being made by recycled materials instead of being dumped into our earth. The carrying case is completely recycled. That's really great the way we can save our earth this way.

  • tweet2sweep

I would select the Lenovo laptop which has a high content of recycled products including old IT parts which is cool. The energy savings are key too which not only helps my pocket but also the environment. Maybe they should have made the case green in color rather than the usual black.

    Way to go Lenovo!

  • matzsmith

I'm guessing that Pavilion All-in-One MS220z is the greenest. I've been wanting an all in one for my kitchen & household tasks. It won't walk off like a NB could and not as consuming as a traditional desktop. It's a waste of time & $ running my desktop to look up info for ingredients, printing a list or recipe, and so much more convenient for payments etc in the kitchen. Hard to watch a how to in the office for kitchen use!! Thanks for the great giveaway & for considering me.

I think that the Toshiba T135 Laptop is the greenest product. The Toshiba eco utility makes it simple to monitor your power usage daily, weekly and monthly. So you can easily spot trends, seeing the times and situations where you’re using the most energy, or how much you’ve saved by putting your laptop in the Eco Mode. Built Earth-conscious, it also comes with a stunning LED backlit display that is mercury-free and energy efficient. I would love to win this to replace my slow, energy-inefficient laptop.

My Top two Best Eco Picks were he cell phone or the SodaStream. I do love the fact of taking CO2 out of the air but the health or of the drink itself slightly worries me however its the consumer limits that makes the product great or harmful. M pick is the Cell phone because Its used everyday and almost everything they could reduce they did. The packaging, the charger, and the make. I think this was a great innovation and i would personally invest in a product like this. Good Job!

I think the Pavilion All-in-One MS220z is the greenest. 100% recyclable packaging and Energy Star qualified. My current set-up takes up so much space and probably is an energy hog. Since I am on my PC so much I know the Pavilion would reduce our energy costs.

  • My3Sons33

I would have to say the Toshiba T135 is one of the greenest products you have reviewed here. The battery life is unheard of! Less charging, less energy used. It's rated EPEAT[R] Gold and is Energy Star qualified? Fantastic! I would love to replace our energy-sucking old desktop with this laptop. I think the HP Pavilion All-in-One MS220z is the greenest product – look at this: it's ENERGY STAR qualified, its packaging is 100% recyclable and already contains 60% recycled materials! Besides, I desperatly need a new desktop – mine's over 5 years old and is barely functioning!

I think waterbluff should be disqualified from this giveaway, as waterbluff is posting a review under the guise that it is their own, when clearly part of her review has been copied and pasted from Claudia Mcgee's review. I am sure that Claudia spent a fair amount of time researching information for her review, and for someone to try to take credit for it as their own is fraudulent and unacceptable.

I like the Sony W2. Who knew that a great machine like this could be made from 23% recycled CDs and DVDs. And a carrying case that is 100% recycled PET bottles. Amazing. Well done Sony! I love that companies are now trying to be more responsible and GREEN. I subscribe via email. Thanks for this contest

  • http://twitter.com/melan26 Mel D.

I really like Sony's approach to the whole of this. It's amazing that they used CDs and DVDs to make something out of what we, the end consumers, dispose of without the guilt of filling up our landfills. I love the fact that they used so much materials that we often dispose of in a short amount of time, water bottles. If Sony's able to convert water bottles into carrying cases, imagine what else recyclable materials should be used to make portable devices. It's really time to be innovative and to use materials that will not fill up our landfills and to not cause greater harm into the atmosphere, land, and water that we should protect and give gratitude to.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/2WY3NFWDHU2CJ5YD6SUOJOCRNA Kirsten

I am going with the Sony W2 series. They are made from 23% recycled CDs and DVDs! On top of that, the W2’s carrying case is made from 100% recycled P.E.T bottles (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) i.e., “soda and water bottles.” That speaks to me right there. Using products to make products is one of the best ways to eliminate waste.

  • L.

My pick is the Sony W2 as well for greenest. I really like that it is made from recycled CD's and DVD's. The resolution really piqued my interest as well. I am currently using a tiny netbook as my main comp (my other died) and the small size and portability is great, but resolution is pretty awful and makes my eyes hurt so I am very interested in that 1366×768 resolution and what it is like. Neat! Thanks for the chance and a great giveaway!

  • MCJunkie

Im going with Toshiba to be the greenest of them all. For one thing it saves on energy and shuts down by itself if you leave it on and walk away. Saving energy to me is green! And the packing is wonderful due to less plastics, dyes and packaging. This is all great! great product and to me best of the best. I really want this for my brother so he can see what green this little guy can offer. I love my brother and want to see him smile cause he has been sad. @MCJunkie on twitter.

  • donnaculliford

HP Pavilion All-in-One MS220z would be my choice since it is energy efficient and less packaging with being 100% recyclable and made from recyled products! @jeauxmomma

  • simplydab

I would vote for the Lenovo L512 as being the greenest (of the products offered).

Today's laptops are inherently greener than their predecessors because they actually offer all the functionality of a desktop (speed, power, storage, features) so this eliminates the need for multiple devices. Additionally, 40% less operating costs means less energy usage, and 50% less CO2 emissions is better for the environment. 30% post-consumer waste used in the manufacturing of this means less office water jugs and IT equipment going in our landfills. Coupled with almost 100% recyclable packaging, (and 20% less of it!) means the environmental impact of this device is inversely proportional to the performance it delivers!! (see, I can use fancy words too!!! ) :D

Of course, all this doesn't matter if the laptop doesn't deliver. With Intel Core i3 and i5 processors and choices of Intel integrated or ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, Li-Ion Battery, 500 GB HDD, Integrated Mobile Broadband, multitouch touchpad, built-in optical drive and 3G/4G connectivity and an anti-glare screen this laptop will serve all needs, from VoIP and webconferencing to social networking and beyond. I fully expect other companies to follow Lenovo's lead and start “thinking green”.

  • simplydab

Very sad. Hopefully she won't be rewarded for her blantant cheating.

  • Julie

I think the “greenest” product that you have highlighted here is the iolo technologies System Mechanic software. This is simply why: If the software can help “tune up” PCs and help them run at their potential, then this this would essentially delay the time that people would purchase new computer systems. The longer consumers can keep using what they have, the less waste produced. At least, that's the idea. And I do believe that consumers should use their electronics until they have no more useful life in them, rather than just “upgrading” every couple of years.

With that said, however, I don't want the software. You asked for honesty. I'm in the market for a new laptop (perhaps one that you've favorably reviewed!). My current one is well over 5 years old and is on its last legs. Unfortunately, its hardware can't be upgraded anymore, and I need something more powerful. The latest software programs have such a difficult time running on my laptop that it gets increasingly frustrating just trying to get any work done. I would love to think that System Mechanic could work miracles, but it can't change or improve the guts of my laptop. System Mechanic might be most useful on a one- or two-year old computer and help consumers extend the life of their PCs and run them at their peak performance.

Thank you for such a generous giveaway.

With it's 40% less energy consumption rate as well as it's 50% less CO2 emissions make this a winner in my books. Another reason is its almost 100% recyclable packaging, other than the plastic bag it comes in… surely means less waste to end up in landfills.

I believe that Toshiba has shown the most improvement or the items you have listed. Toshiba made a stand and took not one or two of their products, but six (and possibly more!) that you have listed here and made them more green! I would love to have anyone of the Toshiba laptops you showed and would proudly buy one in the future knowing they are thinking long time with a greener future.

  • Lisa G

Really think all the products did a great job turning more green. Love the recycled bottles for the Sony carrying case that is cool! That Soda Stream is very innovative with the amount of soda people drink (me) I love diet coke and this would be an asset to many.

  • http://www.facebook.com/nikkicparker Nicole Parker

I think the Lenovo Thinkpads (L412/L512) are the greenest items of the bunch. The reason being that Lenovo has implemented resource conserving mechanisms in a variety of ways. Starting with 40% less energy consumption and CO2 emissions, Lenovo took it a step further by using 30 reused materials in the manufacturing process. They even extended the green concept to the packaging for the laptop as well as the accompanying documentation/manuals. You really get the sense the engineers at Lenovo thought about conservation from the ground up.

Moreover, they have also passed on the energy savings to the end user by using LED-backlit displays which are less battery intensive than older LCD screens. Less battery usage equals longer battery life, which in turns saves more batteries from ending up in the dump. Also known for their durability and reliability, Lenovo saves their customers time, money and headache by making sure each unit is built to last (less laptop turnover). As an environmentally conscious buyer, the Lenovo Thinkpads make the most sense!

  • http://twitter.com/LissaL LissaL

I think all of the products shown are great. But I think Toshiba is the best of the bunch. Here is some info from Toshiba that I am impressed with: They've joined the U.N. Global Compact. Have Environmental Vision 2050 to improve eco-efficiency, Factor T (creating a mathematical formula that balances the increase in consumer value of our products against their true ecological impact.) They are RoHS ( (restriction on hazardous substances) WEEE (waste from electrical and electronic equipment) They holds suppliers to same ECO standards ( Each supplier must pass a stringent, 22-point environmental performance survey) I think that they have come a long way and are striving to do more to help consumers and our planet:)

  • http://twitter.com/CleverGayle Gayle Watkins

I have no personal experience with any of these products, so this opinion is based soley on research. My vote goes for the Lenovo L412 and L512. I like that they start with 30% recycled products to make the outer parts of the computer. But from there, the long-term consumption of 40% less in energy and 50% less CO2 emissions is the most compelling benefit. The long-term day to day benefits are much more important. I also like that they are built military-tough, with a waterproof keyboard!

  • Valerie C.

My pick for the greenest and best is the Sony Vaio W2 Series! I really want one not just because it has “..gone greener and has now been re-sired the W2.” . They have extra resolution and run windows 7! I love it! Thanks.

  • Rainnne

I think Toshiba laptop is the most eco friendly because of the way of the way they package! Reduse, reuse, recycle! And the power saving button is wonderful to save on power when you are not using it. I think it is great how everyone is being more conscious about the amount of power/electicity we use daily and doing their part to recycle/reuse.

  • jefflegg

Some great products in your reviews that all have their fingers on the pulse of “Green”, but since we are to pick one, I am going with the Sony Vaio W2 Series. It has all the “Energy Star” ratings alot of other “green” catch phrases, but its actuall made out of 23% recycled cds and dvds and its carrying case is made from 100% recycled plastic soda and water bottles, some of the biggest issues in our land fill problems! So they are actually removing potential land fill and making the W2, how cool is that. Doesn't get much greener!

Specifically, this laptop is energy star rated and uses so many recycled products (from the case on down)! How great is that!!! I truly think recycling is as green as you can get! along with conserving energy

  • wen

I believe the toshiba line is the most energy efficient because it has recognized ratings that suggest it is the most energy efficient but hard to be sure since I am not an engineer. I personally would like a toshiba laptop because it will allow me to be more mobile as I currently have a desktop. Thank you for this contest.

  • tamialves

I'd have to go with the Sony Vaio W2 Series. I absolutely love that it is made with 23% recycled CDs and DVDs. I hate the fact that we have so much waste in this world and that they are using it to build computers is absolutely amazing! It has a great battery life and energy star compliant along with a dependable name of course! Plus the fact it is very sharp looking… seriously it is the full package that I would love to get my hands on!

  • Sandra

What peeked my interest the most was the Sony Vaio W2 Series. I love that they use recycled P.E.T bottles for the carrying case. And also that it runs Windows 7 like a dream. I have a 10inch Dell mini and my eyes get quite sore staring at the small screen. So I'd love to get a Sony with the 1366 x 768 resolution, would also make life easier browsing the net as sometimes that's a problem with my small Dell. I have also been tweeting @sandra516 .

  • destiny

I think the soda stream is one of the greenest products out there right now. If you can imagine how many cans and bottles of sodas are consumed on a daily basis and then take just a quarter of those people and move them to a soda stream you can save an incredible amount of plastic from being dumped in landfills. Not to mention you can make flavored waters, spritzers, and tea with more products to come it is the best thing since the water filter. following on twitter @dad1111

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Alex-Diaz/1738222151 Alex Diaz

The Samsung Restore to me seems like the “greenest” product available. Everything from the packaging to the devices charger have been from recyclable materials or are energy efficient. And not to mention the Eco Calculator that encourages its user to be more conscious of there environment. What better way to teach people to be more Eco-friendly but through the use of there own cellphone, an object too many of us can't live without.

  • Crystal Warren

While I love the “green” innovations that both HP and Lenovo are implementing with their computers, I really think that the SodaStream is the “greenest” of all. I think it is one of the greenest inventions I've heard of in the last few years (darn I wish I'd thought of that). Look at any landfill, dumpster, or just the side of the road and I think you'll see the most trash and waste coming from soda cans and plastic bottles. Soda is THE American drink if only we could make recycling the containers the American way too!! The SodaStream not only reduces the package waste I also think it reduces the waist waste with letting you decide how much sugar you put in your soda. Just an awesome “healthy” green invention!!! Oh and I subscribe to newsletter at kessandcrystal (at)aol.com too!

My favorite is the Toshiba Laptop, its cool that you can run use analysis to see how much its being used. I see that it mentions packing materials being eco friendly, I love Toshiba products so I am a bit biased, but I would like to see them used recycled materials more incorporated into the laptop itself. As far as most ecofriendly its got to be the sodastream. I love the wording used for it “active green product.” If the cola flavor was actually Coke I would be first in line for this product, but until then I will by my weekly coke and recycle my container. thank you, @lanieekat on twitter.

I have been a part of the green movement before being green was “cool” so it is great to see people putting an effort into helping our earth. Thanks!

  • vantalee

I’m excited about the Toshiba laptop! The fact that the packaging comes with minimal dyes and recyclable materials is a plus because there are so many items that get shipped in a lot of wrap and other things that I can’t tell if it can be recycled that feels like plastic but I don’t know if it is or the really hard cardboard type thing that I think may be cardboard but I’m not sure….

The Eco Utility Button is a great idea to show how much energy is being saved! Just think of how much electricity is being used without having an energy saver. This is something that many people do not even think about.

I also agree that the Soda Stream sounds like the greenest product. Also saving people a great deal of money on those type of drinks. My only concern would be from a “how does it taste?” standpoint. It may taste good, but when people are so used to their specific brands (for me Pepsi) how does it hold up?

  • amberlicious

Wow awesome tech products that are a lot more eco-friendly than their competitors. I like the Sony Vaio W2 Series, I think it's one of the greenest netbooks, because it's made from recycled CDs and DVDs! Not to mention the case is made of 100% recycled plastic. Like you mentioned in the article, Sony took it a step further by using “trash” to turn it into something better and more sustainable. I love the fact that this is all true but it doesn't take away from the sleek look or performance and features of the Vaio. I'm pretty much sold on this product!

I think I like the of Sony’s W Series cool that the carrying case is 100% recycled P.E.T bottles and I think laptops use less electricity than the old type desktops. I hope this is a trend in all industries to make their products out of recycled products. PS I subscribed.

  • ashley

I personally like the Toshiba. I think it's the greenest because all consumer and business laptops are Energy Star qualified. You can also analysis to see how much its being used, which is interesting and useful. Plus they use recyclable materials for packing and shipping!

  • Jenna O.

All of these sound like great products, but I'm leaning towards the Soda Stream as the greenest. Having grown up in a family with a recycling business, I've seen first-hand exactly how much trash is generated from modern daily life. Recycling is good, but requires massive amounts of energy. Any product that cuts down on the production of waste deserves recognition.

love the VAIO and the pink laptop!

Sony Vaio W2 Series since they use recycled dvd and cds its about time someone put a use to those. Also them plastic bottles wont be filling the landfills and getting put to use

  • dddiva

I'd have to go with a Toshiba- from the recycled and minimalist packaging to the eco utility button to the COD reductions it's hard not to love.

  • Kathy Luman

I think the Sony Vaio is the greenest. Energy Star 5.0 compliant, the W2 is made from 23% recycled CDs and DVDs! On top of that, the W2’s carrying case is made from 100% recycled P.E.T bottles (PolyEthylene Terephthalate) i.e., “soda and water bottles.” Once again, sounds like a pretty neat take on green. Rather than putting more waste into landfills, Sony took waste out and turned it into a cool little machine. I personally have this machine and it is a great little machine. GO GREEN :)

I'm going with the Vaio! EPEAT Gold Certified and Energy Star 5.0 compliant has me sold but in top of that, it is made from recycled materials and that is very good to me (and the Earth) I also find it very cool that it's carry case is made from “soda and water bottles” That amazes me! Sony is a wonderful company that makes amazing products and I am excited to see them making eco-friendly devices.

I love thePavilion All-in-One MS220z from its minimal impact on the environment to its minimal space on my desk. This is the computer for me.

Lenovo has a few target consumer groups in mind for these ThinkPads. These include education, business, the military and the government. Besides Home Users this has to be the target groups.
If you like environmental friendly laptops. then check out the ThinkPad L Series from Lenovo. the new ThinkPad L412 and L512 laptops feature an Intel Core i3 or i5 processors with Turbo Boost and Hyperthreading technology, 16:9 HD anti-glare displays on the 14-inch L412 and 15-inch L512, an Intel integrated or ATI Mobility Radeon graphics, 3G/4G wireless connectivity, multitouch touchpads, up to 8 hours of battery life, 4 USB ports, combo eSATA/USB port, support for DisplayPort and VGA, and Microsoft Windows 7.

These eco-friendly laptops are also 40 percent more energy efficient than previous ThinkPad laptops. Additionally, the L Series laptops provides the full range of connectivity options such as Ethernet, Bluetooth, WiFi, 3G and 4G. There is also a high resolution camera that works well in low light conditions.

Undoutabley This is a Winner for Me

  • amybrewer

I would say the Toshiba laptop. With it having a button to monitor energy (Eco Utility) and even not having much packaging and the box it comes in is recycled also. How much more can you do for a laptop? I love how the Toshiba (and all the others) are making a stand and helping the environment.

greendragonscale at yahoo for subscription, @OnFostersMind for twitter,

What is green? Besides a color, a light that means go and the color of money? It now means being mindfull of the environment and how packaging, production and recycling of end-of-life consumer products are cared for. These products may be “Green” now or one of the company's product may be green, but when a company spreads the “Green” over the entire line then calling that company “Green” has more meaning and a larger impact. I pick Toshiba as being the most “Green”. Toshiba’s entire line-up of Toshiba consumer and business laptops are rated EPEAT[R] Gold and is Energy Star qualified as stated above. The “Eco Utility(TM) Button”, their shipping products with a minimum amount of plastics, dyes and packaging, while maximizing the use of recyclable materials as stated by the MyRealityTech article above. Toshiba looks to be aimed at not only green products in the future, they are pointing the “Green” finger and current products and how to make all production work for the environment.

I drink very little soda but my husband enjoys it -the soda stream would probably be the greenest for use in our household. The aluminum saved would be significant.

HP Pavilion All-in-One MS220z From its slim profile to its simple setup, our Pavilion All-in-One MS220z is ready to streamline your desktop and life.

I think this is the greenest because it is Energy Star qualified, it is much smaller than your standard towel which means less material went into making it, and the packaging is 100% recyclable and is made of recycled material. I would love to win this because it is an awesome computer and it is eco-friendly. Thanks for the opportunity. :)

Computers are notorious for being wasteful of energy, and laptops in particular are often manufactured with some rather awful materials, which more often than not are not recycled when the machine is obsolete. It's nice to see Sony addressing those issues with their Vaio netbook line.

I love the SodaStream. It is convenient and economical. No more aluminum cans lying around.

Everyone, the time has almost come to choose our two lucky winners for this awesome contest (Huge thanks to Pepcom Ecofocus and all our Endorsing brands who will, by the way, be watching and validating).

Just a few things. Remember to sign up for our weekly newsletter if you haven't already done so. Its simple. All it takes is your email address, then you go into your email and confirm. DONE! That basically qualifies you for every single one of our giveaway contests (we have a lot!)

Second. It's been brought to our attention that some people may have cheated by plagiarizing other entries. You know who you are and yes, you are disqualified from this contest. We take our site seriously and we have always been fair in our giveaways. We have no tolerance for cheaters who do not follow our simple rules.

Finally, we in all our previous contests, we never give out any identifying information about the winners. It has and always will be our policy out of respect for the privacy of our winners. We have never had any complaints and we've only ever had grateful winners and good sports who participated. However, it's been made known to us lately that some people who lost recently are crying foul. People, we're just a small tech site trying to give out stuff. We have ZERO advertising (in case you didnt notice) and we ge ZERO revenue. By the pure grace of our respectable name and our friends in the industry, all we have are products to give away to people in exchange for some worthy mention in our site. If you cannot accept loss, and if you cannot understand the concept of odds, then please refrain from entering our contests.

    ~MRT Team

Hi this is @waterbluff I do not cheat and enter just like everyone else very sick and tired of people who make contest a career and become greedy and unfriendly over winning if I win im so happy if someone else wins I am happy for them. please stop harassing me and others to make yourself look fantastic .many ppl on twitter enter contest in contest sentence says to RT which means to retweet people learn everyone on here doesn't know and learning how. no one is perfect and no one needs name bashing name calling and making accusations of someone without asking if u do not know about a contest u read others to get a idea how to enter . I apologize if u think its cheating . but it is not unless the companies fax u info personal to u while u sit all day on PC. Everyone copy paste as for leaving comments their all our own. thanks so much ..and good luck to everyone

  • julie

i belive that toshiba products are very green and the soda machine as well very nice @waterbluffy

  • carl Bainbridge

personally i go with HP Pavilion All-in-One MS220z it would be the one that would be a combination of the most green and yet most usefull to me on a day to day basis

  • Jenna_Ice

    Julie,

I don't remember calling anyone out directly. So if you feel that you were called out, I urge you to read my post on there. I have never nor will I ever call anyone out in particular. It is just unprofessional. I only wrote a response in order to clear the air for a lot of people. Whether or not someone is disqualified is strictly up to the team's discretion. I know you have been a religious follower on MRT and on twitter, and I'm very happy to have you participate in our contests. You are always welcome to join and will always have equal opportunity to win along with everyone else; Provided of course that you (and everyone) follow the rules and only comment using their own words and their own usernames. The reason we require email signup is because that is how we contact and verify our winners. If someone creates many usernames, it becomes unfair, and we do see that. I wish you luck in this contest and all that are to come.

I'd have to say Toshiba laptop is the greenest. Toshiba is not only known for it's quality an longevity, it is an upcomer in todays technology and makes marked progress in greeness and eco technology to help our planet and the consumers! I love Toshiba and would love to have a laptop that doesnt shut down on me and suck up too much energy, needless to say my computer is not a Toshiba!

  • Jon

I'd like the thinkpad. The reduced energy consumption is key to a user like me that has their machine on nearly 24/7

  • Ronnette Gideon

The soda machine and the toshiba

  • Kristen Palmieri

Well for me I'm going with the HP Pavilion All-in-One. It has a great energy star rating on it and a great price for it as well. Since saving money on electricity bills doesn't do you much good if you paid a lot for the computer in the first place… So with that I would say that it's a win win win all around! Your being Eco-friendly by useing less energy, and the unit i belive is made from recyceled plastic which is great too… But the most important thing to me is I keep my green where is should be.

  • http://twitter.com/tabida Kristen M Eby

love to have the toshiba, but the sodastream seems to be the greenest because of the least carbon footprint left by it.
